HURRICANES

We live in an area that experiences various forms of severe weather including severe thunderstorms, hurricanes and tornadoes. The national Weather Service usually gives us enough warning when a hurricane is approaching. U.S. Taekwondo will follow the public school system in the event of an approaching hurricane. Tune to local TV and radio stations for information on school closure and early release. If the local school system is closed due to hurricane, so are we. If the school system requires early pick-up due to hurricane, so do we. This policy is in all of our best interests.

We will also conduct severe weather drills at U.S. Taekwondo on a regular basis to ensure that children and staff act in an orderly and efficient manner.

DISCIPLINE

Discipline at U.S. Taekwondo is consistent with the age and needs of your child.

Situations can usually be resolved by redirecting children to more appropriate activities, direct or indirect praise, teaching by example and logical consequences. These techniques give children time to think about their actions.

We may use a quiet, private talk with a child, or a time out. Time outs are generally brief and are always within view of the teaching staff. This being a martial arts program, push-ups are also used.

If your child is experiencing a change in home environment that may affect his or her behavior, please let us know. In these cases, communication is important. In turn, we will keep you informed of any problems we observe. We will work with you to address the situation. However, should it be necessary, U.S. Taekwondo reserves the right to ask parents to make temporary or permanent alternative arrangements for their child.
