At U.S. Tae Kwon Do Hapkido Martial Arts center, self defense is very high on the priority list. Our reality based teachings are very versatile and flexible. A discipline of self protection that includes a variety of strikes, kicks, joint locks, pressure points, and disarming techniques.  The result is a practical, comprehensive approach that is fun to learn and it produces very effective results for today’s ever changing self defense environment.

It is well suited for men and women of various ages because physical strength and athletic abilities are not essential.  The emphasis is on avoidance, awareness and then when it comes right down to it… the skills and the mindset necessary to successfully defend yourself or loved ones.

There are 2 ways to approach self defense training:

One is an on going education in self defense, where you attend a class 2 or 3 days a week. This direction is recommended because it allows you to become very familiar with the concepts and principles of self defense, along with increasing strength and stamina. The reality of it is, the more you do something the better you become at it. This would be our Hapkido class.

The second approach is to take a one day hands on course. This direction is great for those that don’t have the time to dedicate to on going training, but desire better skills and knowledge necessary to deal with a potentially violent confrontation. In this course everything is covered from empty hands self defense to edged weapons and gun disarms. This course is especially helpful to Law Enforcement, security and those taking another art that wish to enhance their street ability. This would be our Combatives course.

U.S. Tae kwon do Hapkido Martial Arts Center has been teaching self defense in the Brandon, Seffner, Valrico, Dover, Plant City and Riverview Florida area for over 25 years.
